Foundation for African Children’s Education (FACE)

In March of 2018 Eyes for the World excitedly joined the Foundation for African Children’s Education (FACE) organization by donating sunglasses for all the backpacks going to Ghana. Eyes for the World is looking forward to completing a vision expedition in April 2020.

FACE was started in 2006 in Vancouver, BC, Canada. It is a subsidiary of the Focus on Africa Society which is a registered Canadian charity (CRA). FACE aims to provide opportunities for children in rural parts of Africa, who would otherwise not be able to attend school.

FACE believes that every child should have the opportunity to attend primary school as a starting point. FACE is convinced that education is the best way to break the cycle of poverty for children in rural areas of Africa as it is well understood that poor uneducated children grow up to be poor uneducated adults. Children of poor families are less likely to enroll in and complete schooling because of financial or medical barriers. Eyes for the World helps alleviate these barriers by providing protective sunglasses and prescription glasses to all the children.

SEE International

At the invitation of eye surgeons in developing countries, and with the approval of local health and civic authorities, SEE International recruits, organizes, and deploys numerous small surgical teams worldwide. Their goal, to restore sight to underserved populations. Since being founded in 1974, SEE’s eye surgeons have examined more than 3.6 million patients and performed over 440,000 sight-restoring operations.

SEE International is the link that connects volunteer ophthalmologists to host clinic sites that are in desperate need of help alleviating the overwhelming number of people living with cataract induced blindness around the world. SEE International organizes the clinics and provides most of the equipment and supplies that are needed. SEE’s volunteer opthamologist donate their time and pay for all their own travel expenses. During each clinic (approximately five days long), sight is typically restored to 50 to 200 people.
